Chinese Ink Paintings by Bairu Ng and Stephen Yee
On View March 26 through November 1, 2008
The Pacific Heritage Museum is pleased to present an exhibition of Chinese paintings by Bairu Ng and Stephen Yee, two well known Bay Area Chinese artists. The subject matters of the paintings consist of bird-and-flowers, figures, and landscapes.

Born in 1948 in the town of Shunde, China, Bairu Ng spent his early years studying sketching and building a solid foundation in art from master sculptor Pang He. Later on, Ng studied with Li Quzai, a master calligrapher of the Lingnan School. Ng also received valuable guidance from masters Lu Yanshao and Wu Shanming, which advanced tremendously his painting techniques and expanded his understanding of art.

Ng’s landscapes and figure paintings reveal the artist’s strong background in drawing and sketching. He easily adopts from different painting styles to develop his own. On the other hand, his paintings of birds-and-flowers reveal a sensitive spirit that captures minute details and feelings.

Stephen B. W. Yee, also known as Chih-fu, was born in 1942 in Hunan province, China. Coming from a scholarly and artistic family, Yee was exposed to Chinese calligraphy and painting at an early age and he quickly developed a love for both artistic expressions since childhood. After studying with various renowned artists, Yee mastered the art of landscape and birds-and-flower paintings.

After graduating in Literature and Arts from the National Taiwan University, Yee passed an examination for diplomatic services and was appointed consul for many years. He is currently a master artist designing wall coverings for commercial purpose and has developed an internationally renowned, award winning line of silk wall coverings. Yee is an advocate of the past masters from the Tang to the Qing dynasties. Blending traditional and western techniques, Yee brings a new and creative perspective to Chinese art.

Both artists’ works have been exhibited extensively in various countries including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, and in the U.S., and each artist has received numerous awards and accolades.

The exhibition is co-sponsored by United Commercial Bank.
